“Welcome to experience the Jukola spirit in Lapua and the round one of the 2007 Orienteering World Cup”
The Finnish Orienteering Federation (FOF), the organising club Lapuan Virkiä and city of Lapua are pleased to welcome You for the first competition of the orienteering World Cup in 2007. The competition will be held in the Virkiä-Jukola event center (final) and very near of Lapua city center (qualification race).
Event office and Centre
Jukola office is daily open in Jukola-week 8.00-21.00 in address Härsiläntie 12. Virkiä-Jukola event center opens on Wednesday.
Venue
Lapua is a city of 14 000 inhabitants. It is growing, energetic and cosy town with an active, cultural and business life. Lapua is situated on the wide banks of the beautiful river Lapua and surrounded by villages, fields and the Simpsiö Hill.
Access
By Plane: From Vaasa airport 70km and from Seinäjoki airport 30km.
By Car: From Helsinki 370km
By Train: There are daily connections to Helsinki, reaching the heart of the capital in 4 hours.

Preparations for the Jukola relay
Saturday June 16th and Sunday June 17th
World biggest orienteering relay: Jukola relay with over 13 000 participants. More information www.jukola2007.net
Maps
Sprint maps scaled 1:4000, contour interval 2,5m.
Terrain
Sprint Qualification: partly open land/ grass (60 %) partly forest with few slopes (40 %), some big buildings with roads, footpaths and parking places. Running shoes are recommended.
Sprint Final: partly urban area but also demanding forest area with moderate slope at the end. Orienteering shoes are recommended. Open land/ grass 30%, forest area 70%.
Weather
Possibility of large scale of temperatures. Average temperature in Lapua on June is +17°C
Punching System
The official punching system used will be EMIT for all the races. The organisers will supply EMIT cards to all competitors. Number vests are used in Sprint finals.

Transportation to model events
Model events locations from Jukola office is about 1,5 km. It takes about 15 minutes to walk to each model events from Jukola office. Competitors can use their own transportations to Model Events. There will not be transportation by the organisers to model events.
Transportation and Bus route to competitions
There will be mandatory transportations by organisers to qualification race and final. Competitors must use organiser’s transportation. Bus route to the starting area goes from the following accomodation places: Kaaranmännikkö- Lapua Christian Institute – Hotel Lapuahovi –School accomodation. Teams, who accomodate somewhere else, must arrive to bus stops (accomodation places) for the transportation to the starting area. Timetable for buses will be published in Bulletin 4.
Training
It is possible train with Jukola training maps. Maps can be bought or order from Jukola office: office@jukola2007.net. There will be also two model events for the races (see the programme).
Other Events
Lakeuden Viesti: national relay competition in Jalasjärvi one week before Jukola Relay on 10th of June. Sprint Finnish Championships in Seinäjoki two weeks before Jukola and World Cup. FC sprint maps can also be used for training.
Doping tests
The athletes taking part in this World Cup Competition must respect the relevant regulations on illegal drug use published by the IOF. Some doping tests might take place.
Registration
The registration fee is 60 € per runner. The participation at all races and model events are included. Also transportation to qualification race and final are included. The entry fee for officials is 35 € per official. The maps and results for all races and model events are included. Teams must entry no later than 30th April number of men and women athletes and number of officials. You can get registration form (.xls-format) from the World Cup office e-mail: wcup@jukola2007.net.

We recommend the following accommodations in Lapua area:
A. Hotel Lapuahovi:
From Tuesday through Sunday 75 €/person/day in double rooms including breakfast.
B. Lapua Christian Institute:
From Wednesday through Sunday 50 €/person/day in double rooms with bathroom.
C. Dormitory Accommodation with breakfast app. 6 km from Lapua from Tuesday through Sunday: 35 €/person/day
D. Floor accommodation in schools 10 €/person/day.

Members of delegations belonging to the European Union don’t need a visa. A National Identity Card or Passport is sufficient. For the other countries, please ask your administration.

Please note that it is strictly forbidden to move on the embargoed area by any means (by foot, by car etc.). Organisers will disqualify the national team from the competition if there will be training or running in the embargoed area before the competitions.
Bulletin 4 (additional event information) shall be given on arrival of the competitors.
