On 18 April 2006 in Lapua,
General Manager Mikko Salonen of Finnish Orienteering Federation, President Heikki
Huhtamäki of Lapuan Virkiä and Event Director Ilpo Pajula of Virkiä-Jukola
signed the agreement to organize a World Cup semifinal. According to the agreement
Lapuan Virkiä is to organize the sprint section of the World Cup semifinal on
14 June 2007. Monetary prizes are a new
addition to the World Cup. 5 000 euros will be given away to the winners of
both the women's and the men's series. Mikko Salonen, general manager
of the Finnish Orienteering Federation, assured that Lapua would be seeing all
the world's top orienteers attending the competition. As well as European
orienteers, representatives of at least 15 non-Europen countries are expected
to enter. The newest country to take part is China that already has
